Generic – Valsartan
Description
Valsartan is used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure. It also helps to improve survival rates after a myocardial infarction. It can lower the likelihood of hospitalization due to cardiac difficulties in those who have heart failure. Valsartan belongs to the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) pharmacological class. It works by relaxing blood arteries, allowing for easier blood flow. This drop in blood pressure is critical in preventing strokes, myocardial infarctions, and renal problems.
How to use
Before starting valsartan and at each prescription refill, please read the Patient Information Leaflet issued by your pharmacist. Should you have any questions, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this medication orally, with or without food, as directed by your doctor, often once or twice daily. The dosage is determined by your medical condition and response to the treatment. The dose for pediatric patients is decided by their weight.
When using the liquid formulation of this drug, use a specific measuring equipment or spoon to ensure correct dosing. Using a typical household spoon may result in an incorrect dosage. If the liquid is a suspension, shake the bottle thoroughly for at least 10 seconds before each dose.
To maximize the effectiveness of this drug, follow a consistent routine. Take the drug at the recommended time(s) each day to help with memory. Continue taking this medication even if you are feeling fine, because people with high blood pressure frequently do not exhibit obvious symptoms.
Notify your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens, such as persistently raised or increasing blood pressure readings.
Side Effects
During the adjustment period to this medicine, dizziness or lightheadedness may occur. If any of these adverse effects, call your doctor or pharmacist.
Reduce the chances of dizziness and lightheadedness by gradually assuming an upright posture while moving from a sat or reclined position.
Remember that your doctor prescribed this medication because the expected benefits outweigh the risks of side effects. The vast majority of people who use this medicine do not have serious adverse effects.
Notify your doctor right away if you experience any severe side effects, including but not limited to fainting or symptoms of increased potassium levels in the blood (such as muscle weakness or an irregular/slow heartbeat).
While valsartan is used to prevent or cure renal problems, it is crucial to highlight that it can, on rare occasions, develop or worsen serious kidney problems. During your valsartan medication, your doctor will monitor your kidney function. Inform your doctor as soon as you notice any indicators of renal problems, such as changes in urine output.
A serious adverse reaction to this drug is quite uncommon. However, if you have any of the following symptoms of a severe allergic reaction: rash, pruritus, swelling (particularly of the face, tongue, or neck), acute dizziness, or difficulty breathing, seek emergency medical attention.
This compilation is not an exhaustive list of possible negative effects. If you notice any other side effects that are not listed here, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

This product may contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or other negative side effects. Consult your pharmacist for more information on the ingredients.
Before starting this drug, you must tell your doctor or pharmacist about your medical history, especially if you have a history of liver illness, dehydration, or excessive potassium levels in your bloodstream.
This medication may cause dizziness when taken. The use of alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) might amplify this impact, causing dizziness. As a result, refrain from operating automobiles, machines, or engaging in activities that require heightened vigilance until you are confident in your ability to participate safely. If you use marijuana (cannabis), talk to your doctor about it.
This drug may cause an increase in potassium levels in the body. Before contemplating the use of potassium supplements or potassium-containing salt substitutes, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.

Please notify your doctor if you are pregnant or want to become pregnant. It is strongly suggested to prevent pregnancy when using valsartan because it may harm a growing fetus. In the event of pregnancy, consult with your doctor immediately about the risks and advantages of using this drug. (For more information, see the Warning section.)
